McDonald’s $300 Million Tech Deal

McDonald’s Corporation announced that it has made a $300 million deal with Dynamic Yield. The union of the two companies sparks a change in how we may expect customers service in the fast food industry . As technology is constantly expanding, the company has set out to follow the wave with digitizing their stores. Customers have already been seeing establishments switching to digital menu boards with changing visual promotions. Now we may begin to see customers ordering their Big Macs without any human interactions. With their new deal, McDonald’s will start to introduce self-ordering kiosk in all locations. The introduction to this product will decrease the time customers spend in the Drive-Thru and increase the establishments’ profits. The technology will suggest add-ons to meals based on what other customers bought with the same item. Many may be concerned that this will put many of their employees out of a job. The company has shut down the rumors that they would let off employees because of the introduction of the kiosks. Could this be a new technology wave that will soon be in more food establishment?

Will Robots Put Delivery Companies Out of Business?

Amazon have definitely proved itself of being one of the world’s best e-commerce company, but could they be expanding into the delivery business also? It is no secret that the company has grown exponentially since Jeff Bezos startup in his garage. It was only a matter of time before the company started to branch out into different markets. Lately Amazon have been seen testing out their new delivery robots in the suburbs of Seattle. The robots have the ability to cruise along the sidewalks navigating around approaching obstacles to deliver packages to customers’ doorsteps. This could limit Amazon’s reliance on outside delivery companies and cut their cost on shipping.  Amazon has many engineering challenges to solve before releasing their products worldwide, but could this eventually put other delivery companies such as UPS and FedEx who use people to deliver packages to customers out of business? As of now these delivery robots opposed no threat to these companies, however only time will tell.
